MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University baseball coach Steve Jaksa announced the signing of four players to national letters-of-intent during the early signing period.
Joining the Chippewas for the 2003-04 school year will be: Brad Foutch, a catcher from Lake Fenton; Mike Kirschenheiter, a right-handed pitcher from Birmingham Brother Rice; Jeff Tebeau, an outfielder from Williamston; and Andy Wingert, a right-handed pitcher from Farmington Hills Harrison.
"They're all excellent baseball players and students," said Jaksa. "They'll fill some of the needs we'll have by the 2004 season. We're continually trying to develop depth, and these players will certainly help us there."
Jaksa indicated that he'd sign as many as four more players.
"We'd possibly like to bring in a couple more pitchers, at least one being a left-hander," Jaksa said. "We'd like another power hitter or one with outstanding speed."
Foutch is a 6-3, 195-pounder who has shown steady improvement. His two sisters, Amanda (track) and Ashleigh (volleyball) , were athletes at CMU.
Kirschenheiter is a 5-11, 185-pounder who throws in the upper 80s. His prep coach is former Chippewa standout pitcher, Bob Riker.
Tebeau is a 6-1, 195-pounder who slammed 15 homers last spring. He's also a 4.0 student. Jeff could also player first or third as well as outfield.
Wingert is a 6-1, 180-pounder with a tight breaking ball and a fastball in the mid-80s.
