Chippewas Roll Past Eastern Michigan, 76-57

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University captured its fifth Mid-American Conference win of the season in resounding fashion, rolling to 76-57 nod over Eastern Michigan here Wednesday night.
The Chippewas are now 8-15 for the season and 5-10 in MAC action while EMU falls to 6-21 and 2-14.
CMU led by as many as 18 points in the first half, 32-14 with 6:55 remaining, but had to settle for a 39-30 halftime lead.
The Eagles cut it to two points with 17:47 to play, 39-37, before Central Michigan went on a 23-4 run to take a commanding 64-43 advantage with 5:38 to go.
The Chippewas were led by senior guard David Webber with 16 points and junior guard J.R. Wallace with 15. Eastern junior Steve Pettyjohn and sophomore Ricky Cottrill had 13 each followed by sophomore James Jackson with 11.
Central shot 61.5 percent from the field in the final half on 16-of-26 and finished at 52.5 percent on 32-of-61. The Eagles connected at a 33.3 percent clip, meshing 19-of-57.
CMU held a 42-34 edge in rebounding behind nine caroms for 7-0 sophomore Chris Kaman and eight by Wallace.
Central Michigan returns to action on Saturday night at Northern Illinois. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (CST). CMU's final home game will be on Saturday, March 2, against Ball State at 2 p.m.
