CMU Men Fall to Kent State, 96-66

MOUNT PLEASANT - Mid-American Conference leader Kent State University broke open a tight game with a huge second half en route to a 96-66 win over Central Michigan University here Saturday afternoon.
It marked CMU's worst home loss since 1994 when Ohio University rolled to an 84-48 win in Rose Arena.
Kent is now 18-5 for the season and 11-1 in MAC action while the Chippewas fell to 7-13 overall and 4-8 in loop play.
The Golden Flashes trailed by as many as nine points in the first half at 20-11 with 9:09 to go. However, Kent raced back to cop 35-30 edge at the break.
Kent scored the first eight points of the second half and the rout was on. The Golden Flashes went up by as many as 32 before settling for the 30-point victory.
Senior guard Trevor Huffman of Petoskey powered the Kent efforts in the second half was 19 of his team-high 21 points. All five KSU starters were in double digits.
Game-high honors went to CMU's 7-0 sophomore Chris Kaman had a career-high 26 points and was also the game's top rebounder with seven. Senior David Webber chipped in with 15 and junior Chad Pleiness added 10.
Kent State shot a sizzling 63.3 percent for the game, meshing 38-of-60 from the floor and nine-of-14 from behind the three-point line. The Chippewas shot 50 percent on 23-of-46 but made just two-of-12 from behind the arc.
Kent also showed why it was the MAC's leading rebounding team as it pulled down 32 to CMU's 21.
The Chippewas hit the road for a pair of games next week, playing at Ohio on Wednesday and Buffalo on Saturday. Central's next home game is Wednesday, Feb. 20, against Eastern Michigan at 7 p.m.
