DETROIT -- The Central Michigan University baseball team's offense stalled on Saturday afternoon as it dropped both games of a doubleheader at Detroit. The Titans tapped the Chippewas for five runs, winning game one, 3-0, and game two, 2-0.
Titan hurler Keith Astrauckas stymied the Chippewa offense, allowing only two hits in the first game. He went the distance with two strikeouts and four walks. Tommy Grubb and Ryan Krueger were the only Chippewas to register a hit. Both were 1-for-2 at the plate.
Detroit's Tim Andrzejak had a one-out base knock in the second and moved into scoring position with a stolen base, advancing to third on the throwing error. Brian Wilson made it 1-0 with an RBI single to right field.
It was all the Titans would need but they added insurance runs in the fourth and sixth innings to put the game away.
Dan Horvath took the loss and is now 2-3 on the season. He went 5.1 innings and tallied six strikeouts while allowing three walks.
CMU pitcher Chad Pleiness posted 11 k's in the second game but it wasn't enough to halt the Titan offense.
Scoreless through four and a half, the Titans broke Pleiness. Andrzejak got on board with a single down the right side. He then moved to second on wild pitch and broke the tie on Zak Voit's RBI double down the left field line.
Detroit put the insurance run up in the bottom of the eighth.
Pleiness only walked two Titan batters in nine innings of work.
David Latour, Travis Osborn, Dan Gibbons and Krueger each tallied hits for the Chippewas.
