Chippewas Capture 4-3 Win Over Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio - Central Michigan University won the first game of a key Mid-American Conference series with the University of Toledo here Friday afternoon behind some solid pitching and the hitting of redshirt freshman Jim Geldhof, 4-3.
The Chippewas have won five straight and stand 27-22 for the season and 12-9 in MAC play. UT is 17-32 and 8-16. The two teams are slated to play two more here Saturday at 1 p.m.
CMU entered the weekend in the sixth and final spot for the next week's MAC tourney.
Central moved into a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when David Latour singled to left, went to second on a wild pickoff attempt and scored on a singled to center by Tim Bullinger.
Toledo took a 3-1 lead with three runs in the sixth, the Rockets collecting three hits with a walk and an error. Two of the runs were earned.
The Chippewas got the lead back in the seventh with three runs of their own. Scott Pickens legged out an infield single and Ryan Krueger followed with a bunt single and they both same home on Geldhof's first homer of the season - a three-run dinger to left.
Chad Pleiness went the first seven innings, allowing six hits and three runs. Just two of the runs were earned. He walked one and fanned eight. He picked up the win to raise his record to 6-3.
Collecting his second save of the season with two scoreless innings of relief was lefty T.J. Johnson for the Chippewas.
Both teams had just six hits and nobody had a multiple-hit game for Central.
