Former Chippewa Hurler Makes It To The Show

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Former Central Michigan University baseball pitcher Lee Gardner was called up on May 17 from the International League to play for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays ball club.
Gardner was leading the International League with 12 saves at the time he was called up. He was 0-0 in 19 appearances for the Durham Bulls and sported a 1.89 ERA.
Gardner posted 20 career wins for the Maroon Gold from 1995-98. His 86 strikeouts in 1998 still stands as the tenth-best single-season effort by a Chippewa.
