Central Michigan University has announced the 2002 schedule for the women's cross country team.
The Chippewas open their season at home on August 30 before heading on the road for five invitational meets, highlighted by the Notre Dame Invite on October 4.
The Mid-American Conference Championship will be held on November 2, followed by Great Lakes Regional Championship (November 16), which determines individual and team qualifiers for NCAA Championships. The NCAA Championships will wrap up the season on November 25.
CMU assistant coach Karen Lutzke welcomes the challenging schedule.
"The meets are more competitive this year because we're more competitive," Lutzke said. "You have to beat teams outside of your region, or else you don't stand a chance in the NCAAs.
"The Notre Dame Invite and the pre-nationals allow us to compete with teams from all over the nation. Other than the MAC and regional championships, those are our two biggest meets. We're really looking forward to this year."
CMU finished tied for fourth in the MAC last season with 120 points.
