MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University men's cross country team competed in its first meet of the year when it hosted the 16th annual Jeff Drenth Memorial. The meet was a 5 K race, and was non-scoring.
Central Michigan University competed against the No. 12-ranked Michigan State Spartans and the Ferris State Bulldogs.
Cleve Thorson of Michigan State won the meet with a time of 15:31. This was the first time a Central Michigan runner has not won the meet in the last five years.
Leading the way for Central Michigan University was senior Pete Remein (Ishepming/Westwood) with a second place finish (15:41). Rounding out the top finishers for CMU were: junior Dave Ernsberger (Harbor Springs/Petoskey) took fourth place (15:50); senior Brian Terpak (Riverview) finished fifth (15:50.5); Chad Theurkom (Haslett) finished seventh (15:57); sophomore Matt Kaczor (Freeland/Freeland) finished 13th (16:12); Jonathon Langworthy finished 20th (16:21); and sophomore Jacob Crowe (Grand Ledge) finished 21st (16:26).
The Chippewas head to Oxford, Ohio, next Saturday, September 7, for the Miami Invite. The meet begins at 11 a.m.
