KALAMAZOO - Bowling Green scored on its first four penalty kicks to edge the Central Michigan University women's soccer team at the Mid-American Conference Tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon.
The Chippewas (9-8-3 overall) missed on their first penalty kick attempt leaving the door open for Bowling Green to take the advantage. The Falcons responded with four straight penalty kick scores.
Jill Adams, Jacqui Lorenzo, and Ashleigh Burke scored on CMU's next three attempts as CMU kept pace with the first of BGSU's shooters.
However, first team All-MAC honoree Samantha Meister went low and right on CMU netminder Anne Decker to give the Falcons the 4-3 lead.
Stacy Downing came within inches from knotting it up at four apiece. Downing went left on Falcon goalkeeper Ali Singler, hitting the post.
The two MAC rivals couldn't settle the score in regulation or two overtimes. The teams ended 110 minutes of play tied at 0-0. <>
The Chippewas outshot the Falcons, 10-6. CMU held a 4-1 shot advantage at halftime and outshot BGSU in the second OT by that same margin.
Decker made three saves for CMU. She made two in the second half, and one in overtime. There also was one team save.
Shingler turned aside all five of CMU's shots on net. She preserved the shutout win with one save in the first overtime and three in the second.
Bowling Green advances to the finals on Sunday, Nov. 9. The Falcons will play the winner of the Ohio/Western Michigan semifinal match.
