Mount Pleasant, Mich.

NOTES:
*CMU tight end Dave Kurzen made his first catches for the season. He had two receptions for 30 yards and long of 18.
*Chippewa QB Derrick Vickers threw three touchdown passes. That matches a career high. He also had three against Sam Houston in 2002.
*Vickers has 30 career touchdown passes. He moves into fourth in the CMU career record book for TDs.
*Running back Jerry Seymour rushed for 105 yards on 19 carries. That is the fifth time the CMU RB has run for 100 or more yards this season.
*Akron's 608 yards of total offense is the third-best mark in Kelly/Shorts Stadium history. Toledo set the stadium mark with 643 earlier this season.
*Akron QB Charlie Frye amassed 460 yards of total offense. That is a career best and a new Kelly/Shorts Stadium mark. Walt Church's mark of 404 yards set in 1996 was the old standard.
*Frye's 416 yards of passing was a career best. He was 27-for-34 with two TDs.
Akron Coach Lee Owens:
On quarterback Charlie Frye: He never ceases to amaze me, he is such a leader. I don't know if there is a better quarterback in the country. If you look at his play week in and week out he is one of the top.
We might have been too hyped to start the game. We were committing a lot of penalties like jumping offsides.
We were concerned about CMU's running game coming in. We have had some troubles defending the run at times this season. We over-committed to stopping the run and made Derrick Vickers try to beat us. He made some passes early on but it paid off in the long run.
CMU Head Coach Mike DeBord:
Today's game was pretty typical of how most of our MAC games have gone. We had a chance to win, but there are always just a handful of plays that hurt us. Those plays have been the difference between winning and losing, and we have not been able to limit those negative plays.
I thought our defense played well in the beginning of the game by forcing a couple turnovers and the offense did a nice job capitalizing on those turnovers.
Akron is a strong offensive team and they have a great leader in quarterback Charlie Frye. Frye is one of the top quarterbacks in the MAC. I think that he has not gotten the exposure that guys like Ben Roethlisberger of Miami and Josh Harris (Bowling Green) have gotten, he is a bit overlooked and underrated.
