MOUNT PLEASANT -- Former Central Michigan University football standout Brian Leigeb has been acquired by the Los Angeles Avengers of the Arena Football League.
The 6-2, 205-pound safety will be a defensive specialist for the Avengers after seeing action in 15 games for the Indianapolis Colts during the 2002 NFL season. He did play in one game for the Grand Rapids Rampage of the AFL in 2001.
"When I was coaching the Indiana Firebirds, I remember seeing Brian when he was with the Colts," said Avenger head coach Ed Hodgkiss. "He's a great athlete and a physical defensive back with good size. In addition, he knows the AFL game already, so we feel fortunate to pick him up."
Leigeb earned MVP honors for the Chippewas in 2000 after leading the Mid-American Conference in tackles with 13.4 per game. He holds CMU's career tackle mark with 490 and the single-game standard of 26.
The 25-year-old Leigeb is a product of Midland Dow High.
