Track Teams Compete at Gina Relays

Hillsdale- Central Michigan University's men's and women's track and field teams competed at the "Gina" Relays. The meet took place Thursday, April 24, through Saturday, April 26, on the campus of Hillsdale College.
More than 10 other teams took part in the non-scoring meet, such as Michigan State University, University of Michigan, Western Michigan University, University of Toledo, Grand Valley State Universtiy, and Eastern Michigan University.
The men's track and field team stood up to the competition by placing 10 in the top seven spots.
Jeff Davis in the steeplechase (8:57.20) and Jake Flynn in the 5000m run (14:25.15) lead the way for the Chippewas by earning first-place honors.
Nicholas Stout was the lone second-place winner for CMU in the 400m hurdles (53.48). The Chippewas had two men finish in fourth and they were Dana Thomas in the 400m hurdles (53.64), and Mike Sidlauskas in the hammer throw (186-04), Pete Remien finished in fourth place in the steeplechase (9:07.78), George Kirby tied for fifth in the high jump (6-6), Luke Humphrey pulled out a sixth-place finish in the 5000m run with a time of 14:40.76, and Mike Marsh in the shot put (50-1/2) and Jake Lake in the 400m hurdles (54.68) were the last two athletes to round out the top seven place finishes.
The women's track and field team had eight women place in the top 10 at the "Gina" Relays.
Kelli Kirchofer was the sole individual event champion for the Chippewas with her performance in the high jump (5-8 1/4). The women's 3200m relay team also finished first with a time of 9:12.97.
CMU had two athletes finish in second place and they were LaQuesha Wiley in the long jump (18-5), and Kathryn Davis in the shotput (46-02). Fallon Bailey jumped 18-4 1/2 in the long jump to earn fourth place. Katherine Lolli in the 400m hurdles (1:04.14), and Taylor Washington in the long jump (18-3 1/4) both finished with sixth-place showings. Two athletes finished out the top ten by placing eighth and they were Melissa Miller in the 5000m run and Kari Taylor in the hammer throw (148-03).
The men's and women's teams are scheduled to compete next wek at the Jesse Owns Classic in Columbus, Ohio on the campus of Ohio State University. The men are scheduled to compete May 3-4, while the women are set for May 2-3.
