Baseball Duo Named Academic All-MAC

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Central Michigan University seniors Mike Gates (Flushing) and Ryan Krueger (Alpena) were named to the 2003 Academic All-Mid-American Conference baseball team as voted upon by the faculty representatives.

Gates, a 3.61 student majoring in marketing and logistics, finished the season with a .276 batting average to go along with four homers and 44 runs-batted-in.

Ryan Krueger, a 3.51 student, stole 22 bases in 2003.

Krueger, a 3.51 student majoring in geology, batted .318 with three homers and 22 stolen bases in 26 tries.

A total of 15 players, with a minimum of a 3.2 GPA who played in at least 50 percent of the contests, were selected. Forty were nominated. Only Ball State with four honorees had more than CMU.
