Central Michigan University head baseball coach Steve Jaksa announced the signing of four players to national letters-of-intent.
Joining the Chippewas in the fall will be: Jeremy Crum, an outfielder/infielder from Kellogg CC; Sean Hoorelbeke, an infielder from Hartland; Derrick Walker, a right-handed pitcher/outfielder from Detroit; and Kurtis Wells, a first baseman from Grand Rapids CC.
"We're continuing to fill needs that we have and this group does that," said Jaksa. "We're creating depth, and we signed four more solid prospects."
Following is a look at each new recruit:
Crum -- Jeremy is a speedy 6-0 outfielder who also played infield at Kellogg. "He has excellent baseball instincts and is a determined young player who is maturing as a hitter," Jaksa said.
Hoorelbeke -- Sean is a 6-0, 205-pounder who slugged 15 homers this past season. "Sean gives us some power we were looking for," Jaksa said. "He's an aggressive hitter who could play first or third, and maybe in the outfield."
Walker -- Derrick is a 6-3, 180-pound outfielder/right-handed pitcher from Martin Luther King High. "Derrick is an excellent athlete who was recruited by multiple schools," Jaksa said. "He has a lot of raw talent, and the more he plays the better be'll become."
Wells -- Kurtis is a 6-4, 215-pounder who garnered first team All-America honors at GRCC. "We've been after Kurtis for quite awhile but GRCC made the national tourney and we had to wait until it was done," Jaksa said. "He's a talented player with good size and a solid glove at first base."
These four join the eight who signed earlier with CMU: Jason Brown, a right-handed pitcher from DeWitt; Jason Cairns, a right-hander picher from John Logan CC in Carterville, Ill.; Brad Foutch, a catcher from Lake Fenton; Mike Kirschenheiter, a right-handed pitcher from Birmingham Brother Rice; Jeff Richardson, a first baseman and right-handed pitcher from Swartz Creek; Jeff Tebeau, an outfielder from Williamston; Andrew Wertz, an infielder from Rockford; and Andy Wingert, a right-handed pitcher from Farmington Hills Harrison.
