Cross Country Opens Season In Fine Fashion

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Both the Central Michigan University men's and women's cross country teams launched its respective seasons with the Jeff Drenth Memorial meet in Mount Pleasant this afternoon. It was a non-scoring event for both the men and women.
On the men's side of the race, the Chippewas packed in tightly at the top as four Chippewas laid claim to the top time of 15:47. Sharing the Drenth title were Jeff Powers, Kevin Sule, Rick Bauer and Jacques Henning. Jacob Crowe and Ron Miller were the next best time. Each ran the 5k course in 15:57. Matt Kaczor rounded out the top Chippewa runners by taking seventh in 16:06.
Frank Therrian completed the top 10. He was 10th in 16:30.
Melissa Miller captured the meet title on the women's side of the race, and was the first of a string of seven Chippewas to cross the finish line. Miller won the 5k event in 18:33. She was followed by Teresa Bongiovanni (18:47), Cami Moll (19:00), Danielle Quisenberry (19:01), Karen LeRoy (19:15), Megan Newton (19:24), and Holly Klamer (19:25).
Shannon Webster rounded out the top-10 finishers, grabbing 10th in 19:47.
