Men eighth, Women 19th at Cross Country Regionals

Ypsilanti-- The Central Michigan University men's and women's cross country teams took on some of the top teams in the region at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet this afternoon.
The men's team finished eighth with 219 points while the women's team took 19th with 604 points.
Tristen Perlberg led the way for the men's in the 10k event. Perlberg finished 14th with a time of 30:30.5.
Jacques Henning, Dave Ernsberger, Jacob Flynn, and Matt Loiselle rounded off the scores for the Chippewas. Henning finished 45th (31:26.8), Ernsberger 51st (31:33.0), Flynn 54th (31:37.8) and Matt Loiselle was 55th (31:38.3).
Frank Therrian (74th, 32:13.2) and Jacob Crowe (83rd, 32:20.7) finished off the seven runners for the Chippewas.
Wisconsin took first place for men's side in the region with 47 points. Notre Dame finished second with 82 points, Butler was third with 102 points followed by Michigan in fourth with 111 points.
The men's individual champion was Nate Brannen from Michigan. He finished the 10k event in a time of 30:10.9.
Teresa Bongiovanni led the women's team finishing 69th with a 6k time of 21:43.1.
Following Bongiovanni was Sara Prout (22:46.7, 125th), Liz Burdick (23:13.5, 140th), Susan Duncan (23:13.8, 142nd), Lisa Krueger (23:18.0, 147th), Elizabeth Carpenter (23:33.4, 156th) and Ashley Anderson (23:36.5, 159th).
Michigan took top honors with 40 points. Rounding out the top five were Notre Dame (79), Michigan State (85), Indiana (148) and Marquette (166).
The women's individual champion was Rebecca Walter from Michigan. She finished the 6k event in a time of 20:01.4.
The top two teams and the top four individuals, not on one of those teams (providing they finish in the top 25), will automatically qualify for the NCAA Meet on Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Indiana.
