MOUNT PLEASANT -- Senior Lindy Hatfield scored a career-high 22 points here Tuesday night but it wasn't enough to prevent Central Michigan University from dropping a 74-70 nonconference decision in women's basketball to Oakland University.
The loss dropped CMU's record to 1-1 while the Golden Grizzlies are also 1-1.
The Chippewas held a 36-32 halftime lead and expanded the lead to 10 points on two occasions in the second half, the last at 48-38 with 15:58 remaining.
Oakland went on a 21-4 run to take a 59-52 lead with 7:14 to play. CMU did cut it to two points but could get no closer. The final time was 72-70 with six seconds remaining on a pair of free throws by Hatfield.
Hatfield drilled three three-pointers and dished out four assists for CMU while junior Chasidy Myers came off the bench to add 17 points.
Two OU players posted 21-point nights, Anne Hafeli and Nicole Piggott, and Amanda Batcha chipped in with 15. It was a career-high for Piggott.
