MOUNT PLEASANT -- Former Central Michigan University standout Dan Rohn will be the guest speaker this Saturday when Chippewa baseball hosts its second annual "Meet the Team" day at Boomers Lounge in the Mount Pleasant Holiday Inn.
The festivities will run from 4:30-6:30 p.m. It's open to the public, and the cost is $7 which includes hors d'oeuvrs and door prizes. Pocket schedules and a team poster will also be available.
Rohn, a second team All-American for CMU in 1977, is currently the manager of the Tacoma Rainers, the Seattle Mariners AAA team in the Pacific Coast League. He has managed the Rainers for the past three seasons and posted a record of 216-213.
Dan was named PCL "Manager of the Year" in 2001 after leading his team to an 85-59 record and a co-championship. He has been managing in the minor leagues for 10 seasons, and recently returned from Venezuela where he coached the Lara Cardenales.
"I was a teammate of Dan's here at CMU and we're excited to have him back for our 'Meet the Team' gathering," said head coach Steve Jaksa. "He was a great player at CMU, made it to the majors, and now has a successful managing career on the pro level."
Following his playing days as a Chippewa, Rohn played parts of three seasons in the major leagues with the Chicago Cubs and Cleveland Indians.
All members of the Chippewa baseball team along with the coaches will be on hand Saturday. The program will begin at 5:45 p.m. The dress is casual.
Those interested in attending should RSVP by February 5 by calling 989-774-1580 or by e-mail at strom1b@cmich.edu.
