Chippewas Win Double-Overtime Thriller

MOUNT PLEASANT -- It took two overtime periods here Saturday afternoon but Central Michigan University won a Mid-American Conference women's basketball game over Northern Illinois University, 64-58.
Tied at 42-42 after regulation and 53-53 after one overtime session, the Chippewas outscored NIU, 11-5, in the final extra sessions for the MAC triumph.
The win ended a three-game losing skid for CMU and improved its record to 8-10 for the season and 2-5 in conference play. The Huskies fall to 6-12 overall and 3-4 in MAC action.
Freshman Candace Wilson was a standout, scoring seven of her team and career-high 17 points in the second overtime. Wilson, an athletic 5-8 guard from Akron, Ohio, scored four points in the first overtime.
The only other Chippewa in twin figures was junior guard Casey Manning with 13 points.
Game-high laurels went to Huskie sophomore Stephanie Raymond with 18 while Keishond Williamson chipped in with 12.
Neither team shot well in the game, CMU meshing 20-of-53 for 46.2 percent while NIU made 22-of-58 for 37.9 percent.
Next up for the Chippewas is a road date at Miami on Wednesday.
