PEORIA, Ill. -- Junior Jeff Powers and sophomore Matt Loiselle led the Central Michigan University men's cross country team to a third-place showing at the Bradley Classic on Friday afternoon in Peoria, Ill.
The race included 12 teams in a 8K loop at the Neuman Golf Course. Canadian powerhouse Windsor took the title with 30 points followed by Missouri (51) and CMU (85). Fourth-place Drake posted 120 points.
Powers placed third overall with a time of 24:45.00 and Loiselle was right behind in fourth (25:10.00).
"We finished where I expected," coach Craig Fuller said. "I was encouraged with how hard we went out at the start but the weather was a little too warm for us and we had some problems."
The meet was CMU's final test before the Mid-American Conference Championships on Oct. 29.
"We've got our work cut out for us if we want to defend the MAC title," Fuller said. "We'll need to make some improvements the next two weeks and get some guys healthy as well. There's no reason we can't do it even though we're pretty young."
Fuller was pleased with the performances turned in by junior Andrew Manning and sophomore Adam Koepfer. Manning placed 21st with a time of 26:04.42 and Cullen was 27th in 26:21.09.
Bill Peterson rounded out CMU's scoring with a 30th-place finish in 26:25.11.
Northern Illinois will host the MAC meet. CMU has won the last three league titles.
