MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to four matches with a 1-0 win over the University at Buffalo. The Chippewas got a goal from Laura Roberts in the 74th minute to provide the margin of victory. Anne Decker made three saves and recorded the 16th shutout of her career as CMU improved to 4-5-2 overall and remained unbeaten in the MAC at 3-0-1.
"We were fourtunate that we were able to just play well enough to win today," head coach Tony DiTucci said. "We made a couple of adjustments at halftime that helped us put more pressure on Buffalo in the second half, and we were able to make a play and get the goal we needed. We're pleased to remain unbeaten in the MAC."
CMU outshot Buffalo (3-7-1, 1-3-0 MAC) 8-2 in the second half as they put heavy pressure on Bulls goalkeeper Anna-Lesa Calvert, who made six saves but took the loss. For the game, the Chippewas had the edge in shots 11-7.
Roberts goal came off a feed from Rosamaria Rago. Off the pass, Roberts blasted a shot from the top of the box past Calvert into the top right corner of the net. It was her first goal of the season.
The Chippewas continue their homestand next weekend with two more matches at the CMU Soccer Complex. Their next match is on Friday, Oct. 7, at 3 p.m. against Ball State.
