MOUNT PLEASANT - The Central Michigan University women's soccer team ran its unbeaten streak to six matches with a 1-0 win over Miami (Ohio) this afternoon. The Chippewas raised their overall record to 6-5-2 and are now 5-0-1in Mid-American Conference play. Katy Boggan's second goal of the season was the only offense that CMU and Anne Decker would need. Decker recorded her third consecutive shutout, making two saves for her sixth win of the season. CMU's scoreless streak is now at 376:12 over the last four matches.
"I'm pleased that we got a pair of wins and six points in the standings this weekend," head coach Tony DiTucci said. "We just need to remember that we've still got five more MAC matches to play, and we need to keep improving as a team if we want to be as successful as we believe we can be. We'll be remembered for how we finish more than how we've started."
CMU is off to its best ever start in conference play, with five wins and a tie over the first six matches. It has recorded three consecutive shutouts, and has allowed just three goals during the first six conference matches.
"We've been playing good defensively as a team," DiTucci said. "We've been able to tighten up that part of the game."
CMU outshot Miami 14-5. Boggan's goal came in the 69th minute off a cross from Laura Gaesser. Boggan buried a quick shot from a few yards in front of the net to put the Chippewas ahead.
"Katy Boggan was the player that stepped up and scored for us today," DiTucci said. "We've been getting contributions from different players each match. Today it was Katy's turn."
CMU now hits the road for a pair of matches this weekend, including a showdown on Sunday, Oct. 16 with Western Michigan, the team challenging for the top spot in the MAC along with CMU. The match with the Broncos starts at noon on Sunday. CMU plays at Northern Illinois on Friday, Oct. 14. That match also kicks off at noon in DeKalb, Ill.
