Junior defensive Daniel Bazuin sacked Joey Lynch on fourth-and-11 on Ball State's second possession to break the CMU record for sacks in a career. Following his performance on Saturday, which featured 5.5 tackles for loss and 3.5 sacks, Bazuin holds CMU career and single-season records for tackles for loss and sacks. In his career, Bazuin has 48.5 tackles for loss and 25 sacks. He collected 27 tackles for loss and 16 sacks in 2005.
CMU recorded its first winning season since 1998, and its five MAC wins are also the most since that same season.
The Chippewas finished the 2005 season 4-2 on the road. It is the most road wins in a season for a CMU team since the 1994 squad was 4-3 away from home.
CMU evened its record at 3-3 all-time in overtime contests. The Chippewas are 2-1 all-time in overtime games on the road.
This is the 11th time in school history that the Chippewas have won the final game of the season to ensure a winning record.
Thomas Keith intercepted his team-leading fourth pass of the season on Saturday. It set up a Rick Albreski field goal in the second quarter.
Keith also finished with 12 tackles, giving him 104 for the season.
Kent Smith accounted for 387 yards of offense against Ball State to break the CMU single-season record for total offense. He piled up 3,242 yards of offense in 2005. Smith also ranks second all-time at CMU in total offense with 6,079 career yards.
Ontario Sneed finished the season 1,065 yards. He is the 22nd different CMU player to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season.
Justin Harper finished with 64 receptions in 2005, the second-most in a season in CMU history.
The Chippewas are 5-0 all-time against Ball State when they play the Cardinals in the final game of the season. CMU has won two straight season finales, both over Ball State.
Eight of CMU's 11 games in 2005 were decided by seven points or less. The Chippewas were an even 4-4 in those contests.
