Soccer Announces 2005 Schedule

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - With spring drills wrapping up, the Central Michigan University soccer team turns its attention to the fall and it now has an opening day opponent to focus on.
The squad announced its 2005 season this week which will kick off with a game at Illinois State on Friday, August 26. The team opens its home schedule two days later with a game against Valparaiso on Sunday, August 28.
"We are very excited about the strength and diversity of our schedule for this upcoming year," head coach Anthony DiTucci said. "With opponents from five different conferences, including the Big East (Cincinnati and DePaul) and the Big Ten (Northwestern), our non-conference schedule should provide us with some great experience against strong competition early-on in our season."
One of the highlights of the nonconference slate is a journey to the state of Colorado over Labor Day weekend. The Chippewas play Colorado College on Friday, Sept. 2, and on Sunday against weekend-host Air Force. Also on the schedule is a trip to the Chicago-area for tilts against Northwestern (Friday, Sept. 16) and DePaul (Sunday, Sept. 18).
The Maroon and Gold open Mid-American Conference play on Friday, Sept. 23, with a game at Ohio. The Chippewas have their conference home opener a week later when they welcome in Kent State on Friday, Sept. 30. CMU wraps up the regular season with a contest at Eastern Michigan on Friday, Oct. 28.
The MAC Tournament kicks off the following week with the top eight teams qualifying. The quarterfinal games are Tuesday, Nov. 1, at campus sites with the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4, and the finals on Sunday, Nov. 6. The semis and finals will be held at the highest remaining seed after the quarterfinals. The winner of the conference tourney gains an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament which begins on Friday, Nov. 11.
