CMU Postgame Notes - Sept. 10, 2005 at Miami
Senior quarterback Kent Smith rushed for a career-high 122 yards on 16 attempts, scoring on runs of one and 23 yards. He also completed 26-of-36 passes for 356 yards, tossing touchdown passes of 50 and 12 yards. He becomes the first Chippewa to throw for at least 100 yards and rush for at least 100 yards since Erik Timpf (214 passing, 147 rushing) against Michigan State in 1993. His 478 yards of offense broke his own school record of 446 that he set at Toledo in 2004.
Damien Linson caught five passes for 204 yards. He is the first Chippewa to go over 200 yards receiving since Reggie Allen (229 yards) at Bowling Green in 1996.
Jacob Brown's deflection of Miami's field goal attempt with 11 seconds left marks the fifth straight game that CMU has either blocked or deflected a kick.
CMU has won two straight MAC openers. Last season, the Chippewas blocked a pair of fourth-quarter field goals on their way to a 24-21 win over Kent State in Mount Pleasant.
Saturday's win marks the second time CMU has defeated a defending MAC divisional champion. The last time was a 21-17 win over Western Michigan in 2000. The MAC split into two divisions in 1997.
True freshman Rick Albreski made his only field goal attempt of the day, a 33-yarder in the second quarter. He has converted each of his last three attempts after missing his first kick of the season. Albreski also converted all five of his extra points on Saturday.
Obed Cetoute's 12-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter was his first career touchdown.
