MOUNT PLEASANT - First pitch for Central Michigan University's Maroon-Gold World Series is set for 2:45 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 30 at Theunissen Stadium.
The Chippewas will conclude their six-week fall practice session with the seven-game intrasquad series. The squad will take the field for seven straight days starting on Friday, with Oct. 7 set as a make-up date in case of rain.
Kurt Lauscher (Gold) will square off against Nathan Pung (Maroon) in the opener, while game two probables are Josh Collmenter (Gold) and Ben Rodewald (Maroon). Andy Wingert (Maroon) and Ty Dunham (Gold) are slated to toe the rubber on Sunday.
CMU assistant coaches Jeff Opalewski (Maroon) and Jeremy Crum (Gold) will serve as managers for the series. The remainder of the Chippewa coaching staff will work with both squads on a rotating basis.
"I think we're right where we wanted to be as we near the close of fall drills," said fourth-year head coach Steve Jaksa. "Now, with our fall series, guys get an opportunity to show what they can do in a game situation. Our guys will be in a little better flow by being in uniform and having umpires to work the games. We're going to use a number of different lineups, but b-oth teams are still playing to get a `W,' which is something that is very important."
The CMU baseball team will host its annual Family and Friends Picnic following game two of the fall series on Saturday. All family and friends of Chippewa baseball are invited to attend the game and the postgame cook-out.
All seven games of the Maroon-Gold World Series are open to the public and free of charge.
