MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University's baseball team took the field for the first time on Tuesday as part of its six-week fall practice schedule. The fall session will culminate with the annual intrasquad Maroon-Gray World Series beginning on Sept. 30.
After spending the first of week of practice conditioning, the Chippewas took the field at Theunissen Stadium on Tuesday for a series of drills. They ran timed 40-yard and 60-yard sprints, conducted team defensive drills and played 6-1/2 innings of an intrasquad game.
The Chippewas will practice six days a week throughout the six-week fall camp, with Saturday serving as the off-day. The first game of the seven-game Maroon-Gray World Series is scheduled for Sept. 30. The series will last through Oct. 6, with Oct. 7 slated as the make-up day in case of rain.
As part of the fall world series, the CMU Family and Friends Picnic will be held on Oct. 1. More details on this event will be available in the coming weeks, but all family and friends of CMU baseball are invited to attend that day's game and enjoy the festivities afterward.
Other highlights on the upcoming calendar are the scout day on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. and the international game on Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. Both events will take place in Theunissen Stadium.
All CMU baseball fall practices and games are open to the public.
