MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan University soccer players Anne Decker, Jacquie Lacek, and Rosa Rago have all been honored for their achievements on the field and in the classroom.
All three players were named to the Scholar-Athlete Great Lakes All-Region team by the National Soccer Coaches Association. Decker and Lacek, both juniors, earned second team honors while Rago, also a junior, was a third team selection. Only one other player from the twelve soccer teams within the Mid-American Conference earned this distinction.
Decker, a Troy (MI) native, continues to collect various honors and set new records. Earlier this week, she was named to the NSCAA/adidas All-Region Third Team. Decker also earned "Player of the Week" honors from the Mid-American Conference on October 10, 2005. She was also named to the All-Mid-American Conference first team this season, and was a MAC second team selection in 2004. Decker has posted 25 wins during her three years as a Chippewa, and she currently holds program records for both career saves (224) and shutouts (19). Eighteen of those shutouts came in conference matches, including 10 shutouts at home, where the Chippewas have lost only one conference match on their home field during the past two seasons. A Physical Education major with a minor in Business Education, Decker currently has a 3.44 grade-point average.
Lacek, a team co-captain, was selected to the All-Mid-American Conference second team for the past two consecutive seasons. She was also named to Academic All-MAC team for the last two years in a row as well. A MAC "Player of the Week" selection in 2004, she was also selected to the CoSida Academic All-District IV first team last season. Lacek has already made her mark in CMU's record books, where she currently sits in third place for career goals (16), assists (12), and total points (44). She is tied for first place with former Chippewa stand-out Allison Campbell for most goals scored in a game (3), and holds the program record for most total points in a match as well (7). The Rochester, NY native is majoring in Secondary Education with a minor in Health Education, and has an overall GPA of 3.89.
Receiving post-season recognition again this year, Rago was the first player in CMU soccer history to earn first team All-Mid-American Conference for two consecutive seasons (2004-2005). For the past three seasons, she has anchored the central midfield for the Chippewas, playing in 59 matches during that time. Additionally, she has contributed four goals and five assists throughout her career. A native of Mississauga, Ontario, Rago carries a 3.50 GPA and is a Health Fitness and Rehabilitation major.
