CLEVELAND, Ohio Not only did Central Michigan University junior cross country runners Matt Loiselle and Andrew Manning shine on the course this season, they also did in the classroom as well.
The Chippewa tandem was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team this week. The honor comes after both earned All-MAC honors at the league championship meet last weekend.
Loiselle was a second team All-MAC pick after finishing eighth in the league meet. He won the individual title at the Jeff Drenth Memorial and helped CMU to the team title at the Great American Cross Country Festival with a 16th-place finish. Loiselle was a first team All-MAC honoree last season. He sports a 3.41 GPA in accounting.
Manning was a second team All-MAC selection after placing 11th at the MAC Championships. He was sixth in the 8K race at the Michigan Intercollegiates. Manning sports a 3.55 GPA in mechanical engineering.
The Academic All-MAC honor recognizes student-athletes who excel in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. The MAC faculty athletics representatives vote on the team.
A total of nine student-athletes were named to the team.
After placing second at the MAC Championships last weekend, the Chippewas now head to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional Championships on Nov. 11 at Bowling Green.
