Southern Illinois Takes Game Three, 11-3

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois plated double-digit runs for the third day in a row and received a solid pitching effort from freshman Cody Adams in an 11-3 nonconference baseball win over Central Michigan University on Saturday.
Southern Illinois (7-1) has taken the first three games of the four-game series over the Chippewas (2-3). Game four is set for 1 p.m. (CST) on Sunday.
Adams, in his first collegiate start, held CMU to two runs on six hits in seven innings of work. The Saluki offense, meanwhile, plated 11 runs on 10 hits and took advantage of three CMU miscues in the field.
Southern Illinois jumped to a quick 2-0 lead when Dean Cademartori doubled home two runs in the bottom of the first. The margin stretched to 5-0 in the fourth, when SIU scored on fielder's choice and a pair of two-out singles.
Troy Moratti singled home Cody Allen to get CMU on the board in the top of the sixth, but Southern Illinois answered with three runs in the bottom half. Tyler Lairson's two-run homer with one out chased CMU starter Kurt Lauscher, who allowed seven runs on nine hits in 5-1/3 innings.
CMU added single runs in the seventh and ninth, while SIU scored three unearned runs with two outs in the bottom of the eighth for the final margin.
Four Salukis had two hits in the contest, including Lairson, who drove in three runs and scored twice. Troy Moratti and Ben Humphrey both had two hits for CMU.
