OXFORD, Ohio - The Central Michigan University field hockey team dropped its third consecutive match, falling to Miami, 1-0, this afternoon. Alyssa Nye produced the only goal for the Redhawks (5-7, 2-1 Mid-American Conference) in the second half to slip past the Chippewas (5-5, 0-2 MAC) in a hard-fought conference match.
Miami held the advantage in every statistical category, outshooting CMU 15-7, firing nine shots on goal to CMU's six, and earning nine penalty corners to the Chippewas' six. MU's Megan Stengel made six saves to pick up her first shutout of the season, while CMU's Danielle Frank totaled eight saves in the loss.
Nye's goal came just over ten minutes into the second half off a rebound on a shot by Elizabeth Gilroy, who picked up her third assist of the year on the play.
CMU's loss capped a difficult week in which it played three times in five days, all on the road. The Chippewas lost all three matches, falling 5-3 at Michigan State on Tuesday and dropping a 2-1 overtime decision at Ball State on Friday.
CMU will be at home for its next two conference matches next weekend, hosting Ohio on Friday, Oct. 6, and Kent State on Saturday, Oct. 7. Friday's action gets underway at 3 p.m., with Saturday's matinee beginning at 1 p.m. Both matches will be held at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
