Soccer Team Given Two Awards at Banquet

MOUNT PLEASANT The Central Michigan University women’s soccer team was the recipient of two coveted awards given out at the 15th annual Student-Athlete Academic Excellence Banquet on Monday, April 23.
The team earned both the Dick Enberg Team Leadership Award and the team academic award for the 2006-2007 academic year. A women’s and men’s team are honored in both categories.
The Dick Enberg Team Leadership Award is presented to the team that best meets four criteria a high grade-point average, good APR (NCAA Academic Progress Rate), community service involvement and team athletic performance.
The team academic award is given to the team with the highest overall cumulative grade-point average among its student-athletes. CMU soccer boasts a 3.663 cumulative GPA, and for the second year in a row has the highest team GPA of any academic institution fielding a women’s soccer program at any level of NCAA competition.
Individually, 15 current or former Chippewa soccer players were honored at the banquet for maintaining at least a 3.5 grade-point average through the fall semester. Those student-athletes were: Kylie Armstrong, 3.97; Katy Boggan, 3.90; Sarah Burns, 3.56; Anne Decker, 3.67; Amber Delvecchio, 3.87; Laura Gaesser, 3.56; Molly Gerst, 3.63; Kristen Hubright, 4.00; Jacquie Lacek, 3.87; Hannah Lankford, 3.83; Michelle Noble (2002-05), 3.94; Kristen Pelkki, 4.00; Rosamaria Rago, 3.70; Laura Roberts, 3.66; and Erica Rohren, 3.64.
