MOUNT PLEASANT Central Michigan University junior outfielder Tyler Stovall (Cincinnati, Ohio/Moeller HS) has been named a third team All-American by Collegiate Baseball.
The 2007 Mid-American Conference Player of the Year is CMU’s first All-American since Jim Geldhof was a second team selection in 2004 by collegebaseballinsider.com.
Stovall, a unanimous All-MAC first team selection, batted a conference-leading .391 in 2007. He led CMU in hits (88) and runs batted in (59), was tied for the team lead in runs scored (58) and was second in stolen bases (20). His 88 hits are the third-most in a single season in CMU history, while his 58 runs scored tie for the 10th-most in school history.
Stovall led the MAC in hits and runs batted in, was tied for the lead in runs scored, ranked second in steals and third in total bases (127) and on-base percentage (.462). He recorded 26 multiple-hit games, including a career-best 5-for-6 performance at Akron on April 14 in which he tied a school record with four doubles and scored a school-record six runs.
Stovall’s 21-game hitting streak midway through the season is tied for the second-longest streak in CMU history. He hit .468 (44-for-94), scored 31 runs and drove in 24 runs during the streak.
A personal financial planning major with a 3.84 grade-point average, Stovall was named to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America second team earlier this week.
CMU concluded the 2007 season 35-21 overall, 21-6 in MAC play. The Chippewas finished second in the overall conference standings.
