Chippewas Fall in Season Opener at Kansas

All four of Reesing’s touchdown tosses came in the first half as the Jayhawks (1-0) built a 35-0 halftime lead.
Kansas held a 538-294 advantage in total yards and forced the Chippewas (0-1) to punt 10 times.
Reesing threw touchdown passes of 3 yards to Derek Fine and 16 yards to Dezmon Briscoe in the first quarter to stake the Jayhawks to a 14-0 lead. In the second period, Reesing sandwiched touchdown passes of 46 yards to Marcus Henry and 49 yards to Aqib Talib around a 77-yard punt return for a score by Raimond Pendleton.
Jake Sharp scored on a 3-yard run and Scott Webb converted a 34-yard field goal attempt in the third quarter to stretch the KU lead to 45-0.
A 16-yard pass from Dan LeFevour to Bryan Anderson on the first play of the fourth quarter accounted for CMU’s only touchdown. The scoring pass capped a 12-play, 85-yard drive.
Pendleton hauled in a 21-yard pass from Kerry Meier in the fourth quarter to cap the scoring for the Jayhawks.
Brandon McAnderson (16 carries, 110 yards) and Sharp (15 carries, 106 yards) both rushed for more than 100 yards for Kansas. Ten different players caught at least one pass, with Henry making a team-high seven receptions for 103 yards.
LeFevour finished 19-of-37 for 172 yards passing for the Chippewas. Calvin Hissong and Curtis Cutts both registered 10 tackles.
CMU opens Mid-American Conference play next weekend, hosting Toledo at 7 p.m.
