Gaesser and Burns Pick Up Academic Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT A pair of Central Michigan University women’s soccer players have been named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America scholar-athlete all-region team.
Senior defender Laura Gaesser was a third team selection in the Central Region while junior midfielder Sarah Burns earned honorable mention honors.
Gaesser recorded a 4.0 grade point average during the fall 2007 semester to raise her cumulative mark to a 3.57. She is a mathematics major with a minor in outdoor environmental education.
The Kendall, N.Y. native played in all 18 matches for CMU last season while starting 14. She had five shots on goal.
Burns posted a 3.74 grade point average in the fall 2007 semester to raise her cumulative mark to 3.59. She is an entrepreneurship major.
The Ann Arbor, Mich. native started all 18 matches for CMU last season. She recorded four assists, tied for second most on the squad. Burns also had five shots on goal.
CMU’s women’s soccer program is notorious for its academic accomplishments. The Chippewas have posted the top cumulative team grade point in the nation for each of the last three years (2005, 2006 and 2007). Head coach Tony DiTucci’s squad turned in a combined 3.61 this past year after marks of 3.73 and 3.62 the previous two years.
