MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan out-shot Bowling Green 27-7, but needed second-half goals from Erica Rohren and Valerie Prause to defeat Bowling Green, 2-0, in Mid-American Conference soccer action on Friday.
The Chippewas improve to 11-2-1 overall and 6-0-1 in the MAC with the victory. CMU is off to its best seven-game conference start in program history.
Shay Mannino needed to make just two saves in posting her eighth shutout of the season, a total that ties her with Ann Decker for the most in one season at CMU.
CMU held a 27-7 edge in shots, including 10-2 in shots on goal, but needed a pair of tallies after halftime to secure the victory.
"I am proud of the way the team played today," head coach Tom Anagnost said. "They were all physically and mentally focused on performing at their absolute best, and it showed on the field."
Prause scored off an Amanda Waugh assist in the 51st minute to open the scoring. Rohren knocked in a loose ball 10 minutes later to seal the victory. With the goal, Rohren now has registered at least one point in all seven MAC contests this season.
CMU is back in action Sunday, hosting defending MAC Tournament champion Toledo at 2 p.m.
