Chippewas Honoring 1979 MAC Men's Basketball Champions

MOUNT PLEASANT -- When the Central Michigan University men's basketball team hosts Ball State on Saturday, Jan. 17, the Chippewas are going to party like it's 1979.
That's because CMU Athletics will be honoring the 1979 Mid-American Conference championship squad with a special halftime ceremony commemorating the 30th anniversary of CMU's title.
Central is hosting a doubleheader that day with the women's team playing Western Michigan at 2 p.m. and the men hosting Ball State at 4:30 p.m. A postgame reception will be held at O'Kelly's Sports Bar and Grille.
The 1979 Chippewas were 19-9 overall and 13-3 in the MAC, tying Toledo for the regular season championship. The Rockets won a playoff game to advance to the NCAA Tournament while Dick Parfitt's Chippewas traveled to Purdue for the National Invitational Tournament.
