Curran Named MAC Defensive Player of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT - Central Michigan junior goalkeeper Melinda Curran (Cincinnati, Ohio/Summit Country Day HS) has been named the Mid-American Conference’s Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Curran stopped 12 of 13 shots in a pair of road wins over MAC foe Missouri State last weekend. She turned aside five of six shots in a 3-1 win over the Bears on Saturday before stopping all seven shots to post her second career shutout in the Chippewas’ 2-0 victory on Sunday.
Curran is 5-5 with a 2.20 goals against average, .692 save percentage and two shutouts this year. In her last eight starts, her goals against average is 1.84, her save percentage is .754 and she posted both shutouts.
This is the third time that a Chippewa has received a weekly award this season, the first two were both Offensive Player of the Week. This is the first time in Curran’s career she has received the award.
The CMU field hockey team is back at home on Saturday, Nov. 1 when it takes on MAC foe Ball State at the CMU Field Hockey Complex.
