Stovall Earns First Team Academic All-District Honors

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Senior outfielder/catcher Tyler Stovall (Cincinnati, Ohio/ Moeller HS) has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District IV first team.
It’s the second straight year Stovall has earned the distinction, and after earning second team Academic All-America accolades a season ago, he will once again be on the All-America ballot.
This is the fourth straight year CMU has placed a student-athlete on the all-district first team.
Central is one of three Mid-American Conference schools with honorees. Western Michigan’s Chris Lewis was a first team member and Eastern Michigan’s Steve Bradshaw was a second team honoree.
Stovall, a personal financial planning major with a 3.81 grade-point average, is batting .323 on the year with 13 doubles, four triples, four home runs and 42 RBI. He also has a team-high 21 stolen bases.
A 2008 preseason third team Louisville Slugger All-American and one of 10 national finalists for the 2008 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award, Stovall was the 2007 MAC Player of the Year and a unanimous first team All-MAC selection. He earned 2007 third team All-America honors from both the American Baseball Coaches’ Association and Collegiate Baseball as well as first team ABCA All-Mideast Region accolades.
Stovall also recently finished ninth in a field of nearly 2,000 college students nationwide in the Barron’s Challenge stock-picking contest.
