MOUNT PLEASANT -- Head women’s soccer coach Tony DiTucci has hopes that a dominant spring season will lead into a great fall season in 2008 for the Central Michigan women’s soccer program.
The Chippewas went a sparkling 8-0-3 in spring contests, shutting out their opponents in nine of 11 games and outscoring the opposition 32-2 overall.
“A big goal for the spring sessions is for us to be able to continue player development and allow them to feel comfortable in their role for the fall in terms of ability, consistency and leadership,” DiTucci said. “It's also about creating a cohesive group, which our schedule challenged us to do playing two Big Ten teams and being on the road. We put people in challenging situations to see how they developed and across the board they rose to the occasion.”
Central picked up wins over Ferris State, Indiana State, Eastern Illinois, Cleveland State, Northern Kentucky, Northern Illinois, CMU’s women's soccer alumni and a Canadian club team, the Dixie Blades.
The Chippewas earned ties against Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois State.
“We were very pleased with the results, only giving up two goals and not losing a game,” DiTucci said. “It shows how hard we’ve all worked, and that was evident not just in the record but the way we played as well.”
