Abbott Named MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week

MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan sophomore forward Chelsi Abbott (Woodstock, Ont./St. Mary’s SS) has been named the Mid-American Conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Abbott holds a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in the classroom. She tallied the lone goal of CMU’s 1-0 overtime win at Northern Illinois on Friday before once again providing the match’s only offense in a 1-0 victory at rival Western Michigan on Sunday. This is the first time Abbott has received the award.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Abbott is the third CMU athlete and second member of the soccer team to earn the honor this season. Molly Gerst won the award on Sept. 28.
