2009-10 Chippewa Club Membership Drive
5/15/2009 12:00:00 AM | Chippewa Fund
We have entered the most crucial time period of our annual fundraising campaign. Continuing until June 30, our athletic development staff will be actively renewing and recruiting 2009/10 memberships. Historically nearly 55% of annual fundraising dollars are donated in the last five months of the fiscal year. Last year our record-breaking total of $1,025,583.34 marked the first time CMU Athletics annual fundraising dollars surpassed the million dollar mark.
We are challenged in these tough economic times to do all that we can to increase support over recent years and supplement any potential budget cuts that may affect our student-athletes. As an incentive for doing so, our University has created a challenge grant program that will provide a dollar-for-dollar match on annual fundraising totals that exceed 2007/08 figures. That means if we raise $100,000 more than last year’s total the university will provide a $100,000 matching grant which will generate an additional $200,000 in support of our student-athletes.
The impact that this grant can have on our bottom-line is tremendous. To be successful we need your help, in not only maintaining last year’s support, but securing new dollars for all of our programs. Consider increasing your contribution during the 2009/10 membership drive and tell your friends, family members, co-workers and fellow alumni about the great benefits of being a Chippewa Club member. With the creation of the new Chippewa E-checks program, supporting Chippewa student-athletes has never been more convenient. A complete listing of Chippewa Athletic Fund participation options is listed below.
Another focus of this year’s membership drive is the increased participation of former letterwinners through the CAF. Our development staff has been working alongside our coaches in the “Strength in Numbers” campaign. This is a concerted effort to raise the involvement of former student-athletes from a 14.4% participation rate to 20%. Achieving a 20% participation rate would translate to new members and bring us one step closer to taking advantage of the challenge grant program.
I urge you to take a moment and make a contribution to secure your 2009/10 membership during the February phone-a-thon and membership drive. Every donation no matter what size will help us continue to move our programs forward. Share your knowledge of the CAF and help us bring “Strength in Numbers” to CMU Athletics.

Challenge Grant Program
The university has issued an annual fundraising challenge to all departments. As a part of this program, the university will provide Athletics with a dollar for dollar match on all annual fundraising revenues that exceed last year’s totals. As a result, a 25% increase in your giving could mean a 50% increase in funding for our student-athletes. Learn more about the importance of new gifts, above and beyond gifts and the impact they can have on Chippewa Athletics.
