MOUNT PLEASANT Mid-American Conference high jump champion Erika Schroll headlines three student-athletes from the Central Michigan University women’s track and field team who are competing against the top collegiate athletes in the nation this weekend.
Schroll, Kelly McClure and Allison Jakubowski head to the NCAA Mideast Regional meet, hosted by the University of Louisville, to compete for a spot at the NCAA National Championships next month.
All three Chippewas will compete in the Saturday portion of the two-day meet in Louisville, Ky.
Schroll paced the MAC in the high jump during the indoor and outdoor campaigns, winning the event at both conference meets. Her season-best leap of 5-8 3/4 qualified her for the Mideast Regional for the first time in her career.
McClure broke her own school record in the steeplechase when she crossed the finish line in 10:48.92 at the Sea Ray Relays. She scored in the event at the MAC Outdoor Championships two weeks ago. This is McClure’s second regional appearance, qualifying in the steeplechase as a sophomore in 2007.
Jakubowski’s season-best of 148-2 in the javelin put her in the regional field for the first time in her career. The senior’s toss was the second farthest in the MAC.
Results will be available at the conclusion of competition on Saturday. More information is available on uoflsports.com.
