MOUNT PLEASANT — Central Michigan senior forward Molly Gerst (Ada, Mich./Forest Hills Central HS) has been named the Mid-American Conference’s Scholar-Athlete of the Week.
Gerst holds a 3.63 grade-point average as an elementary education major. She recorded the third hat-trick in the history of the CMU soccer program in the Chippewas’ MAC-opening 4-0 win at Ohio. This is the first time Gerst has received the award.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
Gerst is the second CMU athlete to earn the honor this season. CMU quarterback Dan LeFevour has already earned the award twice.
