Chippewas? Offense Struggles in 3-0 Setback to Broncos

HAMILTON, N.Y. — One day after allowing only one shot against Colgate, the Central Michigan field hockey team struggled to generate any offense of its own in a 3-0 loss to Rider on Saturday afternoon.
The loss evens CMU’s record to 1-1 in the young season.
Rider’s Megan Pisani opened the scoring in the seventh minute when she deflected Marlaine Schneider’s shot into the back of the net.
The Broncos struck again when Jackie Adams fired home a rebound in the 30th minute to hand Rider a 2-0 lead going into halftime.
The Chippewas were held to four shots in the first half and did not register a shot attempt for the first 29 minutes of the second half.
Rider capped the scoring in the 55th minute when Pisani tallied her second goal of the afternoon of a Schneider centering pass.
Melinda Curran got her second consecutive start in goal and turned aside six of the nine shots that came her way.
The Chippewas return to action on Friday, Sept. 11 when they head to Oxford, Ohio for a Mid-American Conference match against Miami University.
