Chippewas Fall To RedHawks, 3-2

MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan Chippewas (3-9, 1-3 Mid-American Conference) lost to the Miami RedHawks (9-5, 4-1 MAC) at the CMU Field Hockey Complex on Sunday by a score of 3-2.
Miami opened the scoring nine minutes into the game when senior forward Mary Hull scored her eighth goal of the season. Freshman mid-fielder Emily Gruesser had an assist on the play as she shot the ball that Hull redirected into the cage for the score
CMU tied the game right before halftime when they scored off a penalty corner. Senior back Kim Sihota scored the goal, her first of the season when she redirected a shot from her sister, junior back Brooke Sihota.
The Chippewas took their first lead of the game when freshman Julianna Makrinos scored two minutes into the second half, with an assist from junior forward Paulina Lee.
Miami scored 10 minutes later when Mary Hull scored her second goal of the game. Junior forward Jackie Nguyen had an assist on the goal.
The RedHawks scored the game winning goal with just over six minutes to go in the game when senior forward Kate Snyder found the back of the cage on an unassisted goal.
MU outshot CMU, 16-9, and held the edge in penalty corners, 11-4.
Junior Anastasia Netto played all 70 minutes in goal for the Chippewas, making five saves on the day.
Kim Sihota and Makrinos led CMU in shots. Each of them had two for the game.
The Chippewas are back in action on Saturday, October 16, when they travel to Springfield, Mo. to take on the Missouri State Bears in the first of two games at MSU. The game on Saturday is at 1 p.m. EST.
Game Notes
- CMU celebrated Senior Day on Sunday. The Chippewas honored their four seniors prior to the game. The seniors are Amy Binder, Pam Seufert, Kim Sihota, and Amanda von Leer.
