MOUNT PLEASANT -- Dietrich Enns tossed five shutout innings in his first collegiate start and combined with Zach Cooper to hold UIC to just four hits as the Central Michigan baseball team picked up a 4-1 victory at Theunissen Stadium on Tuesday.
A four-run sixth provided all the offense for the Chippewas (15-10) who have now won 11 of their past 15 decisions. James Teas delivered a pinch-hit single to left to drive in Dale Cornstubble from third for the game's first run. Scott Phillion and Jordan Dean each followed with RBI singles of their own and Ricky Clark drove in a run with a ground ball to second.
Enns retired 12 of the first 14 batters he faced and only allowed one runner to advance as far as second base. He gave up just a single, walked two and struck out six. Cooper came on in relief and earned the win, giving up a run on three hits and a walk over four innings. He also struck out six.
Dean was the only Chippewa with multiple hits, both singles. The No. 5-8 batters in the order went 5-for-11 with four RBI and two runs scored.
CMU heads down to Ann Arbor to face the University of Michigan on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
