MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to East Lansing, Mich., on Friday to compete in the Spartan Invitational. The women’s meet will be at 1 p.m. and the men will run immediately after at 1:35 p.m.
There are 21 schools competing in the meet, including CMU. Other notable programs running are Bowling Green, Grand Valley State, Miami (Ohio), Michigan, Saginaw Valley State, and Wayne State. The host school is Michigan State.
Several of the teams that are running are ranked in the Preseason U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Poll. Michigan State is ranked No. 21 in the men’s poll and No. 23 in the women’s poll. Michigan is ranked No. 26 in the women’s poll.
Ten runners will represent CMU in the men’s race: Cory Arnold, Wade Buchs, Jason Drudge, Jeremy Kiley, Sammy Kiprotich, Gidenon Kiptoo, Chris Lotz, Chris Pankow, Nathan Sanchez, and Zach Tranter.

There will be several Chippewas running unattached as well. They are Tecumseh Adams, Isaac Cox, Matt Lutzke, Ethan Lievense, Nathan Huff, Tanner Pesonen, Kyle Stacks, Ben Wynsma.

The CMU runners competing in the women’s meet are Holly Anderson, Danielle Dakroub, Melissa Darling, Brittany Dixon, Courtnay Hughes, Kylee Kubacki, Raeanne Lohner, Charnele Lyons, Jacquelyn McEnhill, Maddie Ribant, Sarah Squires, Lauren Wilson, and Rachel Wittum.

The two Chippewas that will compete unattached on the women’s side are Lauren Halm and Krista Parks.

“The main goal (of this meet) is seeing how everybody competes together when they know there is something at stake,” said director of track & field and cross country Willie Randolph. “At our last meet, we did not have a scoring opportunity as a team. It was more about individual times. But at this meet every time is going to have to match up against the other schools that are competing.”
