Cross Country Opens Season on Friday

MOUNT PLEASANT – The Central Michigan cross country program opens its 2010 campaign this Friday when it hosts the 25th Annual Jeff Drenth Memorial. The meet is at Pleasant Hills Golf Course in Mount Pleasant. The meet begins at 11:00 a.m.
The other schools competing in the meet are Michigan State, Saginaw Valley State and Alma.
Ten runners will represent CMU in the men’s race: Cory Arnold, Wade Buchs, Jason Drudge, Jeremy Kiley, Sammy Kiprotich, Gideon Kiptoo, Chris Lotz, Chris Pankow, Nathan Sanchez and Zach Tranter.
There will be several Chippewas running unattached as well. They are Tecumseh Adams, Isaac Cox, Nathan Huff, Ethan Lievense, Matt Lutzke, Tanner Pesonen, Kyle Stacks and Ben Wynsma.
The nine CMU runners competing in the women’s meet are Holly Anderson, Danielle Dakroub, Brittany Dixon, Veronica Garcia, Courtnay Hughes, Raeanne Lohner, Jacquelyn McEnhill, Maddie Ribant and Sarah Squires.
Two other Chippewas will compete unattached. They are Lauren Halm and Krista Parks.
CMU head coach Willie Randolph is excited to get the 2010 season underway.
“Right now, everybody is doing a great job,” Randolph said. “There are some tired legs for the underclassmen. They’re getting used to the higher mileage. Both sides are doing a great job working together and looking at the overall goal for the year. They’re bonding really well.”
