Dear valued members of the Chippewa Club,
On December 1, 2010, Central Michigan University opened a new and exciting chapter in its history with the opening of the CMU Events Center and McGuirk Arena. As a sellout crowd of over 5,300 filled McGuirk Arena with an electricity that radiated from the floor to the rafters, one fact became abundantly clear – CMU has the finest facilities in the Mid-American Conference.
Yet even the most exciting changes are still a divergence from the familiar and naturally present some challenges. Tweaks in parking procedures, entrance points and seating are a few of the things fans need to be aware of.
Here is a quick run-down of the parking procedures during men's basketball games [map]:
Lot 61 VIP Parking- Chippewa Club Members with a VIP parking pass can enter off Broomfield Road. Lot 61 is located on the west side of the Events Center.
Lot 62 West VIP Parking- Chippewa Club Members with a Lot 62W VIP parking pass must enter this lot from East Campus Drive. Continue driving until you reach our westernmost parking attendant. The rows closest to the Event Center are reserved for you.
Season Ticket Parking Pass- Chippewa Club Members with a season ticket pass may park in the remaining reserved rows in Lot 62 West. This area is accessible via East Campus Drive.
Event Day Paid Parking- The remaining rows in Lot 62 West are available for $5 on game day. Lot 62 West is accessible only from East Campus Drive.
Free Parking- Lot 62 East (closest to the Kelly/Shorts Stadium scoreboard) accessible from East Campus Drive has been designated for free game day parking.
Accessing the Events Center is basically the same as it's always been. Fans with VIP parking in Lot 61 will still access the building from the entrance marked by the "Intercollegiate Athletics" sign above the glass doors leading into the Dan Rose Center. Many will recall this being the longtime home of the athletic ticket office. Fans parking in either Lot 62 East or Lot 62 West must enter via the "new" CMU Events Center Atrium doors.
There are many new features you're sure to enjoy once inside the Events Center and McGuirk Arena that aim to make your experience more convenient and comfortable. Fans can sample new concessions items options like The Embers' signature barbecue pork sandwich and peas and peanuts salad. Premium seat ticket holders can experience the fun and convenience of the new "Sideline Signature" in-seat text ordering.
Once inside, the design of our facility promotes traffic flow through the concourse areas and 12 convenient portals provide easy access to your seats. Ushers are located throughout the interior of the facility to regulate access to priority seating sections. This practice helps to ensure quality sight lines at all times for all of our fans and supporters. It also ensures you'll spend less time finding your seats and more time enjoying Chippewa basketball.
As the CMU facilities grow and upgrade to mirror the Championship Culture of Chippewa Athletics, it is important that fans are able to take full advantage of all these facilities have to offer. If you have any questions on game day, feel free to ask one of our many fine ushers or staff members on hand.
We also encourage fans to contact the Chippewa Athletic Fund office with any questions, concerns or suggestions on improving the game day experience at (989) 774-6680 or chip.club@cmich.edu.
Thank you for your valued input and support, and Fire Up Chips!
